The rains continue. We left Seward early hoping to beat a storm system that was coming in from the Pacific... it didn't help. We had rain for most of our trip today. Our destination was Meldetna Creek RV Park, 35 west of Glennallen on the Glenn Highway. The Glenn Highway was the main highway from Anchorage to Canada and the lower 48 states until the Parks Highway was built to Fairbanks. We were told that people prefer the longer route through Fairbanks than the shorter Glenn Highway/Tok Cutoff route. The portion of the highway we were on today, from Anchorage to Meldetna, was fairly good until Palmer and then started to wind through the mountains where the road conditions worsened. Despite the road conditions, the ride took us through some beautiful scenes (and the rain let up occasionally to let us see them).

The campground is on a plateau that is about 2000 feet in elevation and is somewhat isolated. The campground owner told us that this is "The Bush," Alaskans' term for the isolated region of the state. She said that the difference between this Bush and the rest of it is that you don't need to fly into it.
