Not much to report today. The only reason we came to Houston is to spend time with Susie's friend and online teaching colleague, Judy Curtis.
The ride from Galveston to Houston took a little over an hour. As you drive up Interstate 45 you are basically in a large metropolitan area with all that it entails. One of the things you do see along the route is one of the area's reason for being, large petrochemical plants. This area is a major oil center. As you head north out of Galveston, one of the first towns you get to is Texas City. Texas City is famous (?) as the site of one of the worst industrial disasters in the United States. On April 16, 1947 over 500 people died and much of Texas City industrial base and residences damaged or destroyed. A French Liberty ship being loaded exploded and started a chain reaction that caused another ship and some of the petrochemical operations to explode.
