We left Novato a bit later than our normal departure time because we only had a short trip and didn't want to get there too much before check in time. The other reason for our later departure is "rush hour avoidance." Had we left earlier, we would have been caught in the San Francisco rush hour for about ten miles and then we would be driving in the East Bay (Richmond, Oakland, etc.) in the midst of their rush. As it was, we had an easy trip with few traffic tie ups.
Novato was cloudy and cool as we left and the sun peaked out periodically. The temperature climbed as high as 70 when we were in the East Bay and then started down in the 60s when we left highway 101 and headed toward Monterey Bay. The campground, one of the nicest we stayed at since we left New York, sits about 1/3 of a mile from the water and is separated from it by some high dunes. Those dunes and the trees in the campground serve to break up the cool breeze that is constantly coming off of Monterey Bay. We walked over the dunes to the beach and Susie was happy that she chose to wear her sweat pants and sweat shirt. I, being the strong male type, wore my T-shirt, shorts and sandals. It was several degrees cooler, even with filtered sunshine, than in the campground. The weather forecast for the next few days is morning clouds with temperatures in the mid 60s. I suspect that as we head back east on Monday, we will miss this cool weather.
We spent part of the afternoon getting the truck serviced for the trip home and having it washed for the first time since we left New York. I thought the car wash might charge extra to remove all of the road grime that was on the vehicle. I would have waited until we got home to power wash it, but was reluctant to drive into the country club for the wedding tomorrow with the truck looking like it just came off of a construction site or farm.
