A relatively easy driving day involving only about 30 miles of Interstate driving. Once we got off the Interstate in Flagstaff, the drive took us north into the Navajo Reservation where picked up US 160 which took us to Kayenta, one of the main reservation towns. The GPS then directed us up the scenic route, US 163 which skirts Monument Valley. I had not expected this routing since Google Maps had us going on US 160 to US 191 to Monticello. Eighteen years ago, in the days of paper maps, we drove south using the same routing as Google and missed some spectacular scenery. We didn't stop to admire the scenery because our plan for tomorrow is to head south on US 163 to Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park.

Below is a sample of the views on US 163 near Monument Valley.
